Sociology Internship Program

Sociology students can explore career options through participation in the Internship Program (SOC 3000-01), a 3-credit hour internship wherein they work under professional guidance at a local agency or firm. For many, this opportunity has led directly to a career choice and, occasionally, a job. Students should meet with the internship director, Dr. Karen Lahm, 373 Allyn Hall, 937-775-4165 at least one semester before registering.

Before Registering for SOC 3000

  2. Complete resume template. Use this Sample Resume Template (DOC) to assist in completing your resume which you need to bring with you to your appointment.
  3. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Karen Lahm, karen.lahm@wright.edu or 937-775-4165

Success Stories

"Wright State and the Department of Sociology gave me the tools and knowledge to succeed in the fields of homeless care and drug rehabilitation. Hands-on experience and practical application of course materials have prepared me for success by helping me to create and realize social change in my community. Through my Sociology internship at Wright State, I was able to work closely with at-risk individuals to help them achieve their independence, and secure a brighter future for themselves and their families."

"I never knew that I would learn so much from my internship. I didn't just learn about how people with mental illness deal with their illness on an everyday basis, but I learned how to communicate better with people, how to plan activities for a group, and also how to get things done correctly but quickly. I really enjoyed my internship at NAMI, and I will really miss the staff and clients!"
