Why Choose Hispanic Studies?
Wright State’s Hispanic Studies graduate certificate provides an in-depth study of the Spanish language and Iberian and Latin American literature, film, business, written and oral expression, history, and phonetics.
In this program, you will:
- Advance your understanding of Spanish language and literature in a global context
- Further writing and research skills appropriate to professional use
- Achieve a near-native mastery of the Spanish language as well as a nuanced understanding of cultural practices of the Spanish-speaking world.
This certificate is suitable for graduate students wishing to meet requirements to teach Spanish or College Credit Plus courses in Ohio. This certificate also will provide currently licensed Ohio teachers the means to obtain the credentials to teach College Credit Plus courses in Spanish in Ohio. The courses are designed to provide rich cultural and literary content in the target language, reflecting the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.

If you wish to hone your teaching skills, you can enroll in a Spanish Instruction Practicum. Working with a faculty mentor, you will observe elementary and/or intermediate level classes and develop and teach mini-units on culture, language, and literature using the Proficiency Method and the National Standards for Language Teaching.

Admission Requirements
- The graduate certificate program requires acceptance by the Graduate School as a non-degree student.
- You must have earned at minimum a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university.
- A supplemental Department of Modern Languages application with a 1-2 page personal statement in Spanish is required.
- You must pass a department administered Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test with a minimal Intermediate High rating or the equivalent.
- If you are a currently licensed Spanish teacher, you may bypass the above testing requirement.
