Minor in Forensic Studies

On this page:

Why Choose Forensic Studies?

The forensic sciences are an increasingly important component within the field of criminal justice. The objective of this minor is to expand your knowledge of the crucial role science plays in assisting all facets of the criminal justice system.

The curriculum incorporates courses in both the social and physical sciences to provide you with an understanding of how scientific techniques are integrated into the criminal investigative process and beyond. This minor is a natural complement if you plan to major in the social sciences (i.e. criminal justice, sociology, political science), but would also benefit you if you are pursuing a major in biology or chemistry, or if your major is outside of liberal arts but you seek a career in law enforcement.

This minor is a multidisciplinary program that allows you to explore different facets of forensics through a variety of courses within the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Mathematics. The curriculum consists of 18-20 hours of study—two core courses, one course in the physical sciences, and three elective courses from a variety of disciplines.
