This is the first online language class of its kind at Wright State. This innovative upper-level course combining Spanish and German studies is designed to provide an introduction to some essential WEB 2.0 tools and their usage for language teaching and learning. Animoto is a slideshow video maker to showcase language, culture and creativity. Students made 30-second videos in German or Spanish and chose various themes along with music.
Audacity is an online audio recorder for students to add to projects and activities. It is also a useful tool for faculty to assess student oral proficiency.
Glogster is social network that allows students to create interactive online multimedia posters or glogs. Our students created travelogues in conjunction with other online tools, such as YouTube and Google Maps.
Google Maps: Students took us on virtual trips using customized Google Maps, integrating photos, videos and descriptions in the target language.
Jeopardy is a well-known quiz show and is now a template where students create their own games. Ours students created various categories based on culture, language, history, etc.
Voki allows students to create animated speaking avatars. Students discovered that this fun tool can help even the most introverted students orally express themselves through the guise of an animal or other character. Voki is a flexible as it can be embedded in almost any website or project.
Zunal/Weebly are two “webquest” templates that aid in the creation of a website or online project. Students used these websites for lesson planning or a placeholder for their final project.

Bubbl.us is used for students to create online mind maps, allowing them to brainstorm with peers. Students used this tool to summarize complex articles and diagram main points.

VoiceThread is a cloud-based site where students can interact with each other although they may not be online at the same time. We used this site for voice recording and image upload where students described a personal image of their choice and others added their own voice comments.
