Why Choose Nonprofit Administration?

The nonprofit administration minor will empower you as a future professional to positively impact the communities in which you work. Interdisciplinary classroom experiences and experiential learning opportunities provide you with the knowledge and skills for a successful professional careers with nonprofit, social sector organizations. The nonprofit sector has more than 1.6 million organizations in the U.S that benefit from multiple disciplines from education and environmental sciences to public health, communication and the arts, which makes the minor an ideal choice for students enrolled in a range of degrees and majors at Wright State. In addition to the minor, you have the option to pursue the national Certified Nonprofit Professional credential awarded through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.

Careers

In a 2019 survey of 2.321 SPIA graduates, 78 were employed in nonprofit organization management. Wright State alumni from SPIA programs have gone on to work in nonprofits such as Clothes that Work and the Dayton Mediation Center, as well as other organizations, including the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, Dayton BBB, Dayton Development Corporation, and Dayton Human Relations Council. 

Real World Experience

SPIA offers fantastic internship opportunities to students in all majors and minors. Recent internships for our students include the Ohio Statehouse, the Dayton Foundation, the YWCA, Community Geographic Information Systems and Citizen Science Research Experiences in Belize, the City of Kettering, City of Yellow Springs, and the Federal District Court.

Service is part of our school’s culture. Through service-learning, students engage with the community, and learn as participants at events, programs, and activities. The university has earned recognition from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for advancing student learning through community engagement.
