Why Choose the Foreign Service Certificate?
The Foreign Service certificate is intended for students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are interested in careers in diplomacy, or in the foreign service of a national government, including the U.S. Department of State. You will learn about U.S. foreign relations, the conduct of diplomacy, and prepare specifically for the U.S. State Department Foreign Service Exam.

Earning a foreign service certificate can help enhance your career opportunities if you wish to work in diplomacy or foreign service. You will understand the fundamentals of international relations, diplomacy and U.S. foreign policy.
Real-World Experience
The School of Social Sciences and International Studies offers fantastic internship opportunities to students in all majors and minors. Recent internships include the Ohio Statehouse, the Dayton Foundation, the YWCA, Community Geographic Information Systems and Citizen Science Research Experiences in Belize, the City of Kettering, City of Yellow Springs, and the Federal District Court.
Service is part of our school’s culture. Through service-learning, you will engage with the community, and learn as a participant at events, programs, and activities. The university has earned recognition from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for advancing student learning through community engagement.
