Sociologists for Women in Society Award

Marlese Durr picture

Dr. Marlese Durr has been selected by the Sociologists for Women in Society for the 2022 Distinguished Feminist Lecturer Award. As part of this recognition, she will develop a lecture that will be delivered in two venues: 1) at the 2024 SWS Winter Meeting in a location that has yet to be determined and 2) on one selected college or university campus during the 2023-2024 academic year. This lecture (or a paper-based on it) will be published in Gender & Society at a date negotiated with the Gender & Society Editor.

Campuses vie for the opportunity to host the lecture and the criteria favor less urban, less affluent, and less feminist-friendly contexts to broaden the number of students and faculty who are exposed to the best in feminist sociology. The winning campus will be selected in spring 2023, and their representatives will work out dates and arrangements. Dr. Durr will be presented with an awards certificate and a $250 award during the Winter Awards Banquet in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, which she is invited to attend as a guest of the Sociologists for Women in Society.
