Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? Flickr? How can your organization keep up?

A variety of members from the Miami Valley community, government and non-profit organizations, gathered on March 19 to learn about the best practices in the use of social media from a panel of local experts.

One big takeaway: If you’ve been holding off getting involved because you think it will go away, you’re wrong! Every business, organization and government must get involved in social media.

You can shape your message and measure the impact. You can target your message to different populations. And in order to do it well, planning and strategic thinking are necessary! The plan must be fully discussed and involve not just your IT and marketing folks, but must include all employees. Think you need a full-time person? Most organizations cannot afford one person solely committed to managing social media – it takes support from everyone.

Hosted by the Urban Affairs and Geography department in conjunction with the Miami Valley American Society for Public Administration, this luncheon event allowed for public administrators to come together in an informal setting.

The event was facilitated by Wright State University Urban Studies and Geography Department’s very own faculty and staff:

  • Jack Dustin, MVASPA Chapter President
  • Myron Levine, Moderator
  • Ethan Harris, Event Organizer and Emcee

We would like to thank our expert panel members who volunteered their time and knowledge:

  • Will Davis, Wright State University
  • Tyler Hall, City of Dayton
  • Grace Jones, Dayton Children’s Hospital
  • Stacy Schweikhart, City of Kettering

The Urban Affairs and Geography department will continue to support future events hosted by MVASPA.
