Dr. Tracey Steele named Chair of Sociology/Anthropology Department

Dr. Tracey Steele takes over as the Chair for the Department of Sociology/Anthropology effective August 15, 2014.  Tracey is a graduate from the University of Texas with a Doctorate in Sociology. Her areas of specialization are Criminology (with an emphasis in penology), Gender, and Sexuality. Tracey has been a part of the Wright State community since 1996.  Previously, Tracey was the Director of the Crime and Justice Studies program, which is the largest interdisciplinary program with approximately 270 majors. 

 

Her book, Sex, Self, and Society: The Social Context of Sexuality is a reader that contains 60 edited articles divided into 15 chapters covering a range of issues dealing with human sexuality. The reader focuses on sexuality as both process and as a social institution. Contemporary issues such as abortion, sexual violence and sexually transmitted diseases are explored in the last part of the anthology.

 

Tracey is a member of the American Sociological Association, Sociologists for Women in Society, and the North Central Sociological Association.
