French Service Learning Project at Wright State University

As part of a serving learning project, French professors Daddah and Hirt took their French conversation students to the French 1010, 1020, 2010 and 2020 classes the first two weeks of April to promote the French language.

The French conversation class taught the students some fundamentals on learning the French language. During the sessions, Wright State students delivered a great presentation to the classes. The main topic was centered around “why speaking French” can be an important skill to learn. The students were introduced to the French Department professors, the French minor and major program and the different classes being offered.  There was also a discussion on why French is such an important asset in the job market. Finally, the conversation class students shared their study abroad and ambassador program experiences.

This service learning project was a wonderful experience for all students. It helped get started a conversation around why choosing to learn the French language was a worthwhile educational endeavor to pursue. The experience for our students at Wright State University was extremely valuable as it allowed them to not only practice their language skills, but also participate in promoting the language to the Wright State University students.
