On Thursday, October 20th, the Wright State Chinese Club met for an informative Chinese-style business dinner at China Cottage in Springboro. American students, Chinese students, teachers, faculty, and family members gathered around a traditional Chinese round table for dinner. This gave each person the chance to visit with everyone at the table, which is an important part of the Chinese culture. The giant “lazy Susan” in the center of the table allowed each person to try everyone else’s dish! Each person ordered their desired dish and drink in Chinese and conversed throughout the evening in Chinese as well. Most importantly, Professors Broadstock and Du taught everyone proper Chinese dinning etiquette. Learning a second language is more than just speaking and writing in a new language- it is about learning the differences in customs, learning about the people, and exploring a culture that is unlike your own!
