Master's Project: Informal Social Attachments and Desistance from Heroin

I graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice the Fall of 2014. In the spring of 2016, I returned to Wright State to further my education and advance my career opportunities. The first year of my master program I had the opportunity to work as a graduate teaching assistant. By the second year of grad school, I managed to obtain a position with Wright State University as a Research Assistant through the Population & Public Health. My project was qualitative research on those who have chosen to desist from heroin. I wanted to see if their decision to quit heroin was in relation to informal social attachments such as employment and children. During the research, it was found that informal social attachments assist those with maintaining sobriety, but is not the main reason these individuals initially decided to quit using heroin. I plan to continue my work as a Research Assistant.
