Tatiana El Chami

Department of Modern Languages Outstanding Senior, French
Recognition Year:
2021

Tatiana will be graduating this spring with a Major in French and a Minor in TESOL. Her love for languages was already immense, and when she joined the French department at WSU, it doubled and tripled. Her French background made it easy for her to fall back in love with the language and its culture. She has spent her college career tutoring and giving supplemental instruction as a way of sharing her passion for all things French. She will always remember one of the greatest highlights of her career at WSU, which was the French Immersion Day in 2019. Her work with the high school students cemented her desire to become a teacher. She hopes to be able to teach French in the U.S. or in her home country, Lebanon. Thanks to all those who supported her (family and friends) and a special thanks to an amazing French department. Her favorite quote is: « Puisque le temps passe et détruit tout, il faut profiter du présent pour vivre et pour aimer » - Pierre de Ronsard. It means: “Since time passes and destroys everything, we must take advantage of the present to live and to love”. This quote exemplifies her zest for life. Pierre de Ronsard tells us to focus on the present and live in the moment, and most importantly, make the best out of it. Tatiana has taken this advice throughout her college career, especially this past year with COVID-19.
