Peter Simpson

Peter Simpson has taught at the University of Kentucky since 1976 and has been Principal Bassoon with the Lexington Philharmonic since 1978, with which he has been featured in three solo concertos. He has also performed with the Louisville Orchestra, New Hampshire Music Festival, Goldovsky Opera Institute, Lakeside Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Ventura Symphony, Victoria Bach Festival, and the Des Moines Metro Opera.

An active chamber musician, Peter has played in much of the US, including recitals at seven annual conferences of the International Double Reed Society. He is known for combining humor with classical music in “comedy recitals” such as “The Bassoon Olympics” and “Opera; A Bassoonists View from the Pit”.  Peter also recorded the first CD with solo bassoon and theorbo with UK professor Dieter Hennings.
