Why Choose Performance?
If you are an advanced, non-degree student who wishes to pursue intense and concentrated musical study in instrumental, vocal, or piano performance at the pre-master’s or post-master’s level, consider Wright State's Performance Specialist Certificate.
This one-year course of instruction will allow you to engage in a course of study that includes applied lessons, ensembles, and related courses, and prepare a graded capstone degree recital.
There are three certificates available: instrumental, piano, and vocal.
Careers
A music performance professional certificate will allow you to pursue additional career options in music. Among them would be:
- Performing in a band or orchestra or as a solo performer
- Teaching in a music studio
- Teaching at the elementary, high school, or college level
- Choral conducting
- Musical therapy
- Song writing
Academics and Curriculum
The new Performance Specialist Certificate requires 13 credits.

Admission
Admission Requirements:
- You must pass an audition for the Wright State School of Music faculty.
- You must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- You must be admitted to The Graduate School at Wright State.
- You must demonstrate English proficiency per Graduate School requirements if you are an international student.
