The Wright State Piano Festival brings together pianists from across the region for a day of music-making, learning, and inspiration.
Highlights include:
- Solo & duo competitions for Grades 5–12
- Master classes & collaborative workshops (Sight-reading and Piano Ensemble)
- Student recitals and performances

- Flexibility: Choose your events—you don’t need to participate in everything
- Scholarship Opportunity: High school seniors who participate and later enroll at Wright State may be eligible for a piano scholarship

Dr. Minjie Bao
Dr. Minjie Bao has established a diverse career as a pianist and music educator. Dr. Bao has performed across the USA, including performances with Seattle Opera Summer Camp, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, University of Washington, and University of Minnesota. She earned her Doctoral degree in Collaborative Piano and Coaching from the University of Minnesota.
She currently teaches at Wright State University and have previously served in the Music Department at University of Dayton and Central State University, and Stivers School for the Arts. She also maintains a vibrant award-winning piano studio in Dayton.
Dr. Nanyi Qiang
Pianist Nanyi Qiang has established a wide-ranging career spanning chamber musician, soloist, and pedagogue. He is in much demand as a concert artist in solo & chamber recitals and new music concerts. In 2021, his latest recording album “DUO SHU” was released by Blue Griffin. Dr. Qiang has appeared to public acclaim in venues including Carnegie Hall, Stanford, San Francisco New Music Center. He is an alumnus of Music Academy of the West. A strong advocate of new music and technology, Dr. Qiang has been commissioning and performing new music written for piano.
Dr. Qiang is on the piano faculty of Central State University, OH. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. He has been a frequent adjudicator such as MTNA Competitions as well as giving masterclasses in numerous institutions.
