Tri-State Honor Band

January 25-27, 2018

The Wright State University School of Music is pleased to announce the 19th Annual WSU / Tri-State Honor Band Festival, which will take place January 25-27, 2018, on our campus in Dayton, Ohio.  A remarkable musical event, this festival brings together superb high school musicians from across the Tri-State region to create one of the most exceptional and musically rewarding high school honor band experiences throughout the region!

Honor Band Member Selection ProcessPerforming members for this year’s WSU/TSHB will be chosen from among DIRECTOR-RECOMMENDED and/or PRIVATE TEACHER-RECOMMENDED students (see links below for forms and details).  Students will be selected from among submitted nominations on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Band Directors and/or Private Lesson Teachers are encouraged to fill out and submit their recommendations as soon as possible.  DEADLINE:  Review of all student nominations will begin on NOVEMBER 15, 2017, and remain open until all honor band positions have been filled.

Honor Band Conductor:  WSU’s own Dr. David Booth, Director of Bands & Wind Conducting Studies, will serve as conductor for this year’s WSU Tri-State Honor Band.  As many of you are aware, Dr. Booth is well known across the state, region, and country for accomplishments as conductor of our highly acclaimed Wright State University Wind Symphony and Chamber Players.  Among many other accolades, ensembles under Dr. Booth’s direction have six times been selected to perform at our OMEA state conference, and have conducted numerous performance tours, including two international tours to Japan.  Perhaps the Wind Symphony’s most distinguished accomplishment is their having been chosen to perform at New York City’s world-renowned Carnegie Hall, where they performed in-concert with the New York City Chamber Orchestra & Master Festival Chorale.  Dr. Booth remains very active as a popular clinician and guest conductor for high school and intercollegiate honor bands across the country—under his leadership, your students will have a musical experience that will be remembered for years to come!

Nominations are no longer being accepted.  If you have recieved notification that you have been accepted for the Tri-State Honor Band, you can find the registration link at the bottom of this page.

In order to cover festival costs, there will be a fee of $45 for each student selected for the honor band. Selection results will be announced in late November. Those selected will also be sent housing and other information along with a detailed schedule of all rehearsals and details about the final concert.  In addition, music will be sent to each honor band student in advance of the festival, so that they can thoroughly prepare their parts prior to the festival.  All honor band rehearsals will be open to the public and, as always, directors are especially welcome and encouraged to observe!  As in the past, the 2018 WSU Tri-State Honor Band promises to be a fantastically rewarding musical opportunity for all!  Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. David Booth, TSHB Conductor & Festival Coordinator, directly at
