About the Play

Carrie: The Musical is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals, www.concordtheatricals.com

Inspired by the Stephen King novel of the same name and featuring music direction by Matt Ebright, this musical about teens and terror features music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore ("Fame"), lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford ("Fame," "Footloose"), and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, screenwriter of the film. Cordes serves as a Wright State senior lecturer.

Cast Bios

Sylvia Caridad Bordelois (Norma, Chris u/s) (she/her) is a junior musical theatre major from Cleveland. She has also been seen on Wright State’s mainstage in Kelly the Destroyer vs The Springfield Cobras, and she is excited to return to yet another high school musical with a grave twist! Y por supuesto, gracias a mi familia … Besitos, les quiero tanto!

Carson Campbell (Stokes, Mr. Stephens u/s) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Houston. He is excited to be in his first mainstage production at Wright State, and can't wait to show off what he's learned as the "gangly brain" Stokes!

Orion Carter (Mr. Stephens) is overjoyed to be a part of Wright State’s production of Carrie. Orion is a senior musical theatre major. Other shows he has been seen in include On The Town (Dance Swing) and By the Bog of Cats (Xavier Cassidy.) Orion would like to thank his mom.

Julia DiPaolo (Miss Gardner) is a senior acting major from Cleveland. Previous credits include Wright State's A Doll's House (Nora u/s), The Liar (Isabelle/Sabine u/s), and Millennial Theatre Project's Kinky Boots (Pat). Emma Edwards (Sue Snell) is a senior acting major from Atlanta. Previous credits at Wright State include Cabaret, By the Bog of Cats, and Arcadia. She thanks her family, 3B, and all her lovely professors for their unwavering support!

Jake Jonesco (Male Swing) (they/he) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Dublin, Ohio. It is their main stage debut at Wright State, and they would like to thank their family for always supporting them as well as all the faculty for their help in preparing me for this show. Enjoy the show!

Miranda Morrissette (Frieda) is a junior musical theatre major from Champaign, Illinois. She is so excited to be a part of her first show on the Festival stage! She has been a part of other productions at Wright State behind the scenes, including assistant stage manager for A Doll’s House and the understudy of Lucrece in The Liar. She wants to thank her friends and family for all the love and support!

Claire Northcut (Carrie White) (she/her) is a senior musical theatre major from Mason. Previous roles at Wright State include Rona Lisa Perreti in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Rosie in Cabaret, and Ensemble in On The Town! Claire would like to thank the Wright State faculty, her family, and her friends for all their love and support!

Ashley Ortel (Helen, Carrie u/s) is a junior musical theatre major. She is excited to be a part of her first Festival show after previously performing in Kelly the Destroyer…(Zen) and A Doll’s House (u/s Helene, Anne-Marie, Messenger). Elise Parks (Ensemble, Margaret u/s) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Kent Island, Marland. Previous works: The Catwoman (By the Bog of Cats), PA (Cabaret), and ASM (Putnam Spelling Bee). She recently directed Nemo Kids for the KI Theatre camp! She’d like to thank her family, friends, boyfriend, and teachers for their support. Enjoy the show!

Arianna Schrage (Chris Hargensen, Assistant Choreographer, Fight Captain) (she/they) is a senior acting major and could not be more excited to be bringing Carrie to the Festival Stage! Previous Wright State credits include Cabaret, A Doll's House, Sweet Charity, Lend Me a Tenor and Antigone! She sends all her love and appreciation to the Wright State faculty, her family and friends, and this incredible cast. Enjoy the show!

Lior Shaham (George) is excited to make his Wright State debut, having transferred as a junior musical theatre major. He was recently in Fiddler on the Roof at Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (Avram, Lazar Wolf u/s) and The Addams Family (Gomez). He is deeply grateful to the Wright State faculty, friends, family, and everyone involved in this production.

Juliette Trumbull (Margaret White)  is a Junior acting major from New Jersey. Previous roles at Wright State include Philiste u/s (The Liar) and Anne Marie u/s (A Doll’s House Part 2). They are ecstatic to be in their first musical at Wright State! A big thank you to the cast and creative team of Carrie for making an amazingly terrifying show!

Evelyn Vordtriede (Female Swing) is a sophomore musical theatre major. She is thrilled to be a part of her first Main Stage production at Wright State! Originally from St. Louis, Evelyn has been in productions around the St. Louis area, including MUNY, Variety Children's Theatre, and COCA. She would like to thank her family for its continuous support as well as the creative team, cast, and crew who have made this production possible!

Evette Williamson (Ensemble, Miss Gardner u/s) is a junior musical theatre major from Dayton. She was in a previous show in the spring, The 25th Putnam County Spelling Bee (Midge/Mitch). This is her first performance as an understudy, and she is super excited to get her hands bloody for this one. She’s thankful for God and her family's support.

Madeline Zabela (Ensemble, Sue u/s) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Pittsburgh. She is so excited to be performing in her first Main Stage show at Wright State! Her previous involvement in Wright State productions was serving as a production assistant in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She thanks her loving parents and brother, Donovan, for their support!

Joshua Ziegler (Freddy, Billy u/s) is a sophomore musical theatre major from Pittsburgh. Joshua is thrilled to be making his mainstage debut! Creative Team Bios

Edward Boackle (Production Assistant) Edward Boackle is a musical theatre major in the Class of 2028. This is Edward’s first show with Wright State, and he is extremely excited to be involved in Carrie the Musical. Edward would like to thank the entire Carrie team for allowing him to be a part of this amazing show.

Andrea Chenoweth Wells, DMA (Intimacy Director) is a soprano, stage director, and intimacy director based in Dayton. As a classically trained soprano, Wells has appeared with orchestras and opera companies throughout the U.S., including regular appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Cleveland Opera, and Dayton Opera. Career highlights include her Carnegie Hall debut singing Verdi’s Requiem and touring Japan with Maestro Neal Gittleman and the Telemann Chamber Orchestra. She has sung numerous operatic roles and is a frequent soloist on The Shakespeare Concerts in Boston. A proponent of new music, Wells has collaborated with many living composers, including Libby Larsen, Joseph Summer, Jack Perla, Scott Gendel, Jonathon Sheffer, and Monica Houghton. She is a featured artist on extensive discography of works with text by Shakespeare on the Parma and Albany labels. Her stage directing credits include Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring, Marc Antoine Charpentier’s La Fête de Ruel, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and the musicals Chicago, The Sound of Music, and Godspell. She has provided intimacy direction for Dido and Aeneas, Tosca, South Pacific, Sweeney Todd, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Green Day’s American Idiot. She earned her doctorate in Music in Voice and Opera Directing at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, her Master of Music degree in voice from The Cleveland Institute of Music, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Dayton. She has trained as an intimacy director with Theatrical Intimacy Educators and holds a Consent-Forward Artist certificate from Intimacy Directors and Coordinators, Inc. Wells is an assistant professor of voice at the University of Dayton, where she teaches voice, opera, and a course of her own design—Music and Faith On Stage. She is the vice president of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association for the Teachers of Singing (NATS) and a member of the National Opera Association (NOA). She is also intimacy director in residence at Dayton Opera.

Matthew Benjamin (Lighting Designer) is in his 27th year at Wright State as a professor of lighting design and head of the theatre design and technology program, Matthew’s professional credits include seven seasons as resident lighting designer for the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy. Other work includes productions with the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Aspen Music Festival, Alley Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, CATCO, TriCities Opera, Luna Negra Dance Company, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, Opera at Florham, BalletTech Ohio, Human Race Theatre Company, South Jersey Regional Theatre, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, among others. Matthew is also an active theatrical consultant on numerous new theatres and renovations in the region. Member: United Scenic Artists, Local 829: Lighting Design, and International Alliance of Lighting Designers.

Addie Billups (Assistant Stage Manager) is a freshman stage management major from New Albany. They are very excited for their first Wright State production! They would like to thank their friends and family for their support.

Jamie Cordes (Director) a versatile theatre artist with work as an educator, performer and director. Jamie is no stranger to musical thrillers, having directed The Human Race Theatre’s highly acclaimed production of LIZZIE The Musical (Best Locally-Produced Professional Musical—Dayton937, Russell Florence’s Saluting Dayton’s 2018-19 Theatre Season). He also performed in the world premiere opera Sweet Louisa (a tale of a cursed doll) at Ozarks Lyric Opera. Directing credits at Wright State include The Gondoliers, Fugitive Songs, If/Then, Heathers, Sondheim on Sondheim, The Wild Party, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Jamie is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and resident artist with The Human Race Theatre Company. Recent HRTC performing credits include: Squire Western in the world premiere of This is Tom Jones!, Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd (Best Actor—Dayton Most Metro).

James Dunlap (Sound Designer) is the audio coordinator and resident sound designer for Wright State Theatre, James has been involved with sound system/sound production design, music composition, and live-event audio for over 25 years. He has worked with hundreds of national touring acts and local productions. Recent sound design credits include By the Bog of Cats, Arcadia, On the Town, Cabaret, Mother Courage and Her Children, Grapes of Wrath, Chicago, Pride and Prejudice, Les Misérables, The Magic Fire, Oklahoma!, Spring Awakening, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and Hairspray

Matt Ebright (Music Director) is a vocal coach, music director, and accompanist for Wright State. He has served as music director for numerous productions, including Kelly the Destroyer, Bright Star, and The Gondoliers. Additional productions (keyboards and orchestral arrangements) include Mamma Mia!, The Addams Family, A Little Night Music, and Crazy for You. Prior to coming to Wright State, he worked as an accompanist and assistant conductor of The Ohio State Men’s Glee Club. Other credits include work with The Human Race Theatre Company, Short North Stage, The Ohio Thespian State Conference and Princess Cruises.

James Hendricks (Student Technical Director) is a third-year technical direction major and is very excited to bring the world of Carrie: The Musical to life! Some of his previous work includes The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Kelly the Destroyer vs. The Springfield Cobras. James hopes you enjoy the product of the hard work from the cast and crew!

Dylan Serrano (Stage Manager) is a junior in the stage management and lighting design concentration from Dayton. In the Festival Playhouse, they most recently stage managed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Liar. Over the summer, they worked as a stage manager for Interlochen Center for the Arts summer camp, stage managing The Snowy Day and assistant stage managing Matilda and The Tempest. They are grateful for their family and partner’s support.

Jennifer Sydor (Choreographer), an Iranian-American dancer, educator, and choreographer, serves as the artistic director of Dayton Dance Initiative. Praised by The Boston Globe as "dazzling" and by The New York Times for her "intense focus and vivid dramatic skill," Jennifer’s dance journey began at The Dayton Ballet School. She holds an M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a B.F.A. from Butler University. In New York City, Jennifer built an impressive freelance career, collaborating with esteemed choreographers such as Laura Peterson, David Parker, Vanessa Walters, and many others. Her international tours include performances with the avant-garde performance troupe and electro-pop band Fischerspooner, alongside The Wooster Group. She has also graced Bessie Award-winning productions, including Doug Elkins’ Fraulein Maria and Third Rail Projects’ Then She Fell. Currently, Jennifer is in her 18th season with The Metropolitan Opera, where she has worked with Tony Award-winning directors including Mary Zimmerman, Michael Grandage, and Bartlett Sher. Her work has been featured in The Met Opera’s Live in HD broadcasts and PBS's Great Performances in productions such as Manon, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, La Sonnambula, and Turandot. She is also a nominated member of The Met Opera’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. Jennifer's choreographic work has been commissioned by numerous institutions including Dayton Ballet, Wright State University’s dance and musical theatre programs, Sinclair Community College, and the University of Dayton. She has taught at Rutgers University and Regional Dance America's National Choreographic Institute and is a certified Pilates mat instructor through The Kane School/Kinected Pilates. Pam Knauert Lavarnway (Scenic Designer) retired from Wright State in 2022 after 31 years as professor of theatre design and technology in the former Department of Theatre, Dance, and Motion Pictures. While at Wright State, she designed scenery for over 70 productions and taught scene design, scene painting, and related courses. Some of her favorite shows at Wright State include On the Town, Mamma Mia, Drood, No, No, Nanette, Chess, Into the Woods and August: Osage County. Some of her other designs include Das Rheingold, Finding Wright, and The Abduction from the Seraglio for the Dayton Opera, Peter Pan for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, and several productions for The Human Race Theatre Company.

Patrick Phillips (Fight Choreographer) is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association and an active member of the Society of American Fight Directors. He has been actively training since 2021, including many regional stage combat workshops. His fight choreography credits include The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) with Southbank Shakes, Lysistrata, Once, John Proctor is the Villain and Macbeth (assistant choreographer) at Xavier University, and Romeo and Juliet for the Cincinnati Shakespeare touring company. His acting credits include productions with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, Human Race Theatre Company, Know Theatre of Cincinnati, the Carnegie, Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre and others. When not performing or teaching, Patrick is a proud at-home parent to his three amazing daughters.

Zoë Still (Costume Designer), an accomplished alumna of the Wright State design and technology program, has recently returned to her roots at Wright State to teach costume design. Her vibrant career includes designing costumes for The Human Race Theatre Company’s production of Who’s Holiday, as well as for Wright State’s own productions of The Liar and Sister Act.  Zoë is thrilled to bring her creative vision to the stage once again with her upcoming work on Carrie!

Kaitlin Teller (Assistant Stage Manager) is a senior stage manager. Her recent credits include By the Bog of Cats and The Liar at Wright State, as well as The Hello Girls at Sinclair. She would like to thank her friends and family and hopes you enjoy the show.

Deborah Thomas (Vocal Coach), professor of acting/musical theatre, teaches the voice and speech curriculum at Wright State and has served as text and dialect coach for all theatre program productions since Fall 2008. She serves as vocal coach for Dayton’s The Human Race Theatre Company and has acted Off-Broadway at Westside Rep, The Mint Theatre, The Pearl Theatre Company, and regionally at The Huntington Theatre Company, Lyric Stage, The New Boston Theatre and The Open-Door Theatre. She was featured in numerous radio dramas, broadcast live at the Museum of Radio and Television’s Mark Goodson Theatre in New York City, as well as commercials and voiceovers. Most recent dialect coaching credits include the world premiere of NYC’s Twilight Theatre Company’s production of The Golfer, which won accolades at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Deborah holds a B.F.A. summa cum laude in acting from Boston University and an M.F.A. in theatre pedagogy, voice, and speech from Virginia Commonwealth University.
