Dominick Evans, 33, will be the first graduate of Wright State’s motion pictures production program with a significant physical disability. Evans has spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder that results in general muscle wasting and mobility impairment. At 16, he was no longer able to walk. Then when he was 22, he fell in the shower and broke his leg, forcing him to leave Wright State’s theatre program. Evans moved to Michigan and was largely bedridden for five years. The end of the academic year is a time for awards. Several graduating seniors in the Departments of Religion, Philosophy, and Classics were honored at award ceremonies held at WSU over the last few weeks. Top Scholar Timothy B. Corcoran, a Classical Humanities major, was named Top Scholar in the College of Liberal Arts at a ceremony held on April 11 at the Dunbar Library. On Friday, May 2, the College of Liberal Arts held its annual ceremony to recognize an outstanding graduate from each department and program.  Two students from the Department of History were honored: Sarah Aisenbrey was named the outstanding graduate student, and Joseph Bradley-Hutchison was named the outstanding undergraduate student.  They are pictured here with Carol Herringer, Chair of the Department of History, before the ceremony.  Congratulations, and best wishes in the future!

Wright State University’s Women’s Studies internship class, “Women, Leadership, and Social Change,” is giving students real life experiences with the support of a college classroom.  Taught by Amber Vlasnik, director of the Women’s Center, this class combines work in the classroom with an individual internship experience for each student.
