Prof. Paul Lockhart named Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research

Prof. Paul Lockhart has been named the Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research for 2014-18.  This 3-year position recognizes Prof. Lockhart's distinguished scholarship in American military history and early modern Scandinavian history.  Prof. Lockhart's recent monographs include The Drillmaster of Valley Forge: The Baron de Steuben and the Making of the American Army (Smithsonian Books/Harper Collins, 2008) and The Whites of Their Eyes: Bunker Hill, the First American Army, and the Emergence of George Washington (Smithsonian Books/Harper, 2011).  He has also published a number of articles on military history in popular periodicals, including USA Today, Military History Quarterly and the Journal of the American Revolution.  As a CELIA Fellow for 2013-14, Prof. Lockhart has helped to organize a series of events commemorating the First World War for the 2014-15 academic year, including performances of performances of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, conducted by Maestro Keith Lockhart, music director and principal conductor of the Boston Pops and principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra.  Congratulations, Prof. Lockhart!
