History Department recognizes outstanding scholar

Mark Benbow named Outstanding Alumnus

The Department of History is pleased to announce that Mark E. Benbow, Ph.D. (M.A., WSU, 1983), has been named the department's Outstanding Alumnus for 2014.  Dr. Benbow is currently an Assistant Professor of History at Marymount University (VA).  Previously he worked on national security issues for the federal government and also served as the Historian at the Woodrow Wilson House Museum in Washington, D.C.  He currently also serves as the Director of the Arlington Historical Museum in Arlington, Virginia, and is a member of numerous professional and amateur historical groups.  He is the author of Leading Them to the Promised Land: Woodrow Wilson, Covenant Theology and the Mexican Revolution: 1913-1915 (Kent State University Press, 2010) and many scholarly articles and essays.  He is working on a biography of Washington, D.C., brewer Christian Heurich. After that book is completed, he plans to write a book about Woodrow Wilson and the birth of the American film industry.  Congratulations, Dr. Benbow!
