Prior to starting review the program of study and plan a semester for a TESOL internship with a TESOL advisor.

A TESOL porfolio is required.

In certain circumstances, the TESOL certificate may take more than one year to complete. See your TESOL advisor if circumstances warrant additional time. 

Some of the courses successfully completed in the TEFL Undergraduate Certificate program may substitute for courses in the TESOL certificate. See your advisor for details.

Admission

A grade of B or better in an upper-division introductory linguistics course taken within the last five years is the only prerequisite to the certificate program. You may fulfill this requirement by taking either ENG 4710 or ENG 6710 (Introduction to Linguistics) before beginning the certificate program or during the Fall Semester in conjunction with Fall Semester courses.

To be admitted into the program, nonnative speakers of English must obtain a TOEFL IBT score of 100, IELTS 7.5, PTE 68 or students who show proof of successful completion of an Intensive English Program from an accredited Institution or program accepted by international admissions are exempt from the requirement to take an approved English Proficiency exam. You will be tested upon beginning the program and may be required to take ESL courses to improve your English skills.
