Adobe Donates Technical Communication Software to Professional Writing Classes

Adobe Systems, Inc. is partnering with Wright State English to give WSU students a head start in the technical communication workforce. For Spring 2014, Adobe gave free licenses for their Technical Communication Suite to Wright State English’s Professional and Technical Writing program. The software’s normal cost of $1,700 per machine would prevent its use in Wright State English’s courses, but Adobe’s donation of 60 licenses will allow Professional and Technical Writing students to create professional documents for community partners and for their own portfolios.

The software, which includes Robohelp, Illustrator, Framemaker, Captivate, Acrobat Pro, and Presenter, will be used as part of the Documentation and Usability course taught by Dr. Lars Söderlund. “Many employers are expecting students to be familiar with a documentation software like Robohelp, so I am thrilled that Adobe is giving the students access to the software as they prepare for their careers,” he says. Dr. Söderlund also plans to integrate the software into his Professional Writing Software course in the fall, and is confident that students’ access to the software will give them an advantage over other young technical writers in the area.
