Joe Pokorski is a senior studying Spanish and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Joe volunteered with Maximo Nivel and International Volunteer Headquarters in Costa Rica during the summer of 2017, where he used his language and leadership skills. He is an interpreter at the Reach Out of Montgomery County non-profit clinic, and he is certified as a State Tested Nurse Aide. This has allowed him to grow into new roles at the clinic and given him the opportunity for more advanced medical leadership and connection with patients in addition to interpreting. Joe has also taken on the position of president in the Spanish Club and has created new ways to build comprehension and connection to the culture, such as a Spanish dance class and finding job opportunities within the Spanish community. He also participated in the Take Flight Leadership Retreat at Wright State. Joe plans to attend medical school to be a bilingual doctor serving communities in Dayton as well as Costa Rica and Ecuador.
