John J. Stanton is a Wright State alumnus who graduated in 1994 with his B.A. in communication studies with a concentration in dispute resolution and conflict analysis and a minor in French. An active student, John served as the university ombudsman for four years where he made some of his best memories. During those four years as ombudsman, John led “leadership labs,” weekend retreats for student leaders. To this day, John credits much of his success to his fantastic experience at Wright State and says that experience combined with the education he received shaped everything he did going forward.
John now owns a design group called SouthPaw Creation & Design and is also a professional pianist. He has also sat on the Board of Trustees for the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association for the last nine years. One of his biggest career accomplishments was being a guest designer for the ABC TV show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” for a house in Beavercreek. John also had the opportunity to travel to Honduras while working for Boston Stoker where he helped build a home for a needy family which he says was the highlight of his career.
John lives in Dayton with his partner Zac. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, playing piano, and the arts. Serving on the Dean’s Leadership Board has been a very rewarding experience for John. This service brings his Wright State experience full circle. Returning to his alma mater and being involved with the College of Liberal Arts is quite an honor.
