Hanna Lacey

Music
Recognition Year:
2021-22

Hanna Lacey started her Master’s degree in cello performance at Wright State in the fall 2020. She was already a very fine cellist with an excellent academic record, having graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor's Degree in Cello Performance. From the beginning, it was clear to me that Hanna's curiosity and ability to assimilate new information were remarkable.  She took careful notes on everything we talked about and tried out various approaches I suggested; within a short time, she found a solution to whatever problem she faced. I have witnessed in her the same methodical approach to every topic—cello pedagogy, counterpoint, music analysis, and above all cello performance and interpretation. Her progress as a cellist has been remarkable in every way. She was one of the winners of the Concerto Aria Night 2021 competition and did an outstanding performance for the competition.  She has continued to improve since then. Hanna has also been a model member of the department community. She did outstanding work in the Music Office and as GTA. She is always willing to help others, she does all her homework well and on time, she shows up early to each rehearsal having already prepared the music, she supports other students, and she has high ethical standards. Hanna is the kind of musician who lifts the standards for everyone around her. I am very proud of her progress and immensely happy that we could work together the last two years.
