Overview

The New Media Incubator, in association with the Wright State Veteran and Military Center and Ohio Humanities* is proud to present the docuseries—Veterans’ Voices: Lives and Stories.

This docuseries shares the stories of veterans in six focus areas:

  • Communication between service members who are deployed and their families back home
  • The experiences and challenges spouses encounter when their family member deploys
  • The question of integrity for LGBT service members who served before, during, and after the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) policy
  • The ingenuity of veteran entrepreneurs who draw from their military training and skills to build their own businesses
  • Companies who have a commitment to hiring veterans, honoring their military service and providing pathways for them to apply their skills in the civilian workplace.
  • The docuseries wraps up with a segment called “I am a veteran” which engages with stereotypes and misconceptions about veterans. In this segment participants in the docuseries speak back to those tropes and share what they would like for the public to know about their lives and stories.”

It is vital that we capture and preserve the stories of veterans who have served our country. These stories are part of our national history, our local culture, the lives of our community members—in short, these stories matter. Let’s continue telling them!

If you are a veteran, we want to hear your story.

Part 4: Vetreprenuers

Part 4: Vetreprenuers

Part 5: We Hire Veterans

The Veterans’ Voices: Lives and Stories docuseries hope to encourage veterans to be proud of their service today and every day, even in the face of the job search. The fifth installment of this docuseries explores various businesses and organizations that have an explicit commitment to hiring veterans and providing support as they adjust to life as civilians.

Part 5: We Hire Veterans

Part 6: I am a Veteran

The sixth installment in the Veterans’ Voices: Lives and Stories docuseries seeks to drive home the point that there isn’t a typical veteran. They come in all shapes, sizes, orientations and colors – everyone’s story is unique. This episode explores the identity of today's veterans, the absence of a military stereotype, and how it affects civilians' perspective of the military and veterans.
