Outstanding Non-Tenure Eligible (NTE) Faculty Award
Recognition Year:
2022

Dorothy Alvarez has played a vital, leading role in building and sustaining the Spanish program and made invaluable contributions to teaching, administration, and community outreach.

A senior lecturer in modem languages, Professor Alvarez’s many teaching innovations include developing Spanish language courses for professions, such as Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel and Business Spanish. Students appreciate the highly practical focus of her classes, with their real-life activities and interactions through role play, presentations, and the study of authentic materials and practices. Community is at the core of everything she does. Her students have volunteered at the Dayton Hispanic Festival and helped area Latinx immigrants bridge the communication gap between Spanish and English. In all these ways, Professor Alvarez has promoted Wright State’s mission and values, creating a community of dedicated learners and citizens.
