History
Recognition Year:
2021-22

Amy Ackman joined the Wright State History Department after a decade-long career as an Archaeologist in Utah. Under the concentration of Public History, she applied the skills of artifact handling to her course work as she gained additional knowledge of preservation and historical context through this vital program. Amy earned a paid internship with the National Veterans Affairs (VA) History Center on the historic campus of the VA Medical Center in Dayton. It is here she attributes her greatest accomplishment as she took on the challenge of ensuring a contemporary collection to document the COVID-19 Pandemic. Amy oversaw the outreach, donor relations, and gathering of contemporary artifacts and archival materials. After acquiring over forty objects, she accessioned, cataloged, and properly stored each item for the VA History Center, preserving the collection for future generations.
