Liberal Studies Outstanding Students

Each year the director of the liberal studies program, in consultation with faculty who teach in the program, select one graduating senior as that year’s outstanding student. The recipients of this award have achieved during their time at Wright State a superior academic record, demonstrating both intellectual creativity and effective communication skills. Eager to learn and willing to work hard, these students represent the liberal arts at their best.

Alex Bylczynski

Alex Bylczynski is graduating from WSU this spring with a double major in Liberal Studies and Sociology. They were accepted into college at 13 years of age and started their first class at Edison State Community College at 14. Alex graduated with their Associate of Arts Degree at 16 and started at WSU during the fall semester of 2019. Now 18 years old, Alex is graduating with not only a double major, but also a certificate in Social Inequality and Diversity. Reflecting on this outstanding accomplishment, Alex modestly observes, "You don't have to be smart to get through college, you just need to have the motivation to finish school and follow your dreams." Following graduation, Alex will attend Illinois State University, where they will pursue a Master's degree in Sociology. In this graduate program, Alex plans to explore LGBT+ literature and culture, as well as issues related to social inequality and diversity. Alex says they want eventually to become a professor at a community college or university teaching Sociology and English. They have chosen this career path in order to promote the intersectional study of gender, sexuality, and diversity on college campuses, and to help others gain information about the LGBT+ community.
