Date(s):
Tuesday, January 7 to Sunday, February 2, 2003

The Wright State University Art Galleries is pleased to present Global Matrix: An International Print Exhibition, a contemporary review of fine art printmaking in all media from around the world. This traveling exhibition is a joint project with the Purdue University Galleries in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The art of the print has spread to all corners of the globe in modern times, serving as an instrument of democratic communication and as a fine art form of limitless potential. The practice of printmaking has grown and developed conceptually as a result of the influx of the contributions of an ever-growing circle of international artists.

Work was selected by a curatorial team consisting of Kathryn Reeves, a Professor of Art & Design at Purdue; Kimberly Vito, Associate Professor of Art & Art History at Wright State; and Craig Martin, Director of the Purdue Galleries. With over 1500 images submitted by more than 300 artists from 33 countries, the selection process forced many difficult choices. Overall, the work demonstrated a widely diverse use of imagery and both ancient and modern techniques.

The resulting exhibition features a total of 78 works representing 67 indidvidual artists from 19 countries around the world.
