The Wright State University Art Galleries are pleased to present Robert Berlind, Paintings 1982 - 1996, a retrospective of landscape paintings by the artist and professor at Purchase College, State University of New York. The exhibition will run from November 2 through December 7, 1997. On Sunday, November 2, Mr. Berlind will present a lecture about his work in the Creative Arts Center at Wright State University at 2:30 pm. An opening reception for the exhibition will follow immediately afterwards from 4 to 5:30 pm in the Galleries. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
Robert Berlind's paintings offer meditative views of nature, often from unusual perspectives such as looking up through the branches of a tree or across the rippling surface of a pond. His tight balance between painterliness and restraint and his recent interest in the "moving moment" incorporate his keenness for both abstraction and reference. Organized by Wright State Associate Professor David Leach, the show of 54 paintings debuts here and will travel into 1999 to the Neuberger Museum at the State University of New York at Purchase, the Picker Art Gallery at Colgate University, Hamilton, New York, and the Herter Art Gallery at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The exhibition is accompanied by a 32 page catalogue with 22 color reproductions and critical comments by art critic Irving Sandler and artist Leon Golub, along with comments by the artist. The catalogue will be available for purchase in the University Art Galleries.
