About

Emma Smith

Art & Art History
Recognition Year:
2020-21

Emma Smith was born and raised in Tipp City, Ohio. She attended Tippecanoe High School and, following graduation in 2017, enrolled at Wright State University to pursue her passion for art. Emma has always had a love for art, recalling memories of her older sister’s work with pastels as early inspiration. She had never heard of printmaking before, but the art form came naturally to Emma, as it is “the most closely linked to drawing.” She finds the act of creating her work therapeutic and also enjoys the opportunity to combine her love for both art and nature, as much of her work focuses on adapting nature scenes to print. Over the course of her college career, she has received many awards and honors including the Valedictorian’s Scholarship, the Eleanor and Ray Must Printmaking Scholarship, three ArtsGala scholarships, and Dean’s List recognition. She has also participated in multiple print exchanges, most recently the International Print Exchange of 2020. After graduation, Emma plans to travel as much as possible so she can find even more beautiful places to create in and explore.
