Megan McKarns

Megan McKarns is graduating from Wright State in Spring 2021 with majors in Spanish and International Studies. Megan started learning Spanish in high school and grew not only a passion for the language but as well as the culture and the people who speak it. In between her first and second year at Wright State, Megan had the opportunity that she could not pass to move to El Salvador for a year to work in the communities with a Christian ministry. While in El Salvador, she was able to travel all over Central America, learning about the different cultures while being fully immersed. 

In Megan's time at Wright State, she has been fully involved with the Amigos Latinos Student Association, the Office of Latino Affairs, as well as the Office of Latino, Asian, and Native American Affairs. She also works with the Student Retention Team as a peer mentor and Student Retention Associate. In these great opportunities that Megan has been a part of, she has met some of her closest friends. 

After graduating, Megan will stay in Dayton for a year and continue teaching color guard, enjoying time with friends and family, as well as volunteering. She is passionate about being a voice for others and being an agent of change, and in 2022, she will move to McAllen, Texas where she will be working with an organization that supports immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley.

Megan is so blessed and grateful for this honor to be recognized as an Outstanding Senior by the Modern Languages Faculty. She has learned so much from her professors not only about the Spanish language but also about life and the diversity and beauty we find in it. She would like to thank all her professors for believing in her and for pushing her to be the best that she can be in and out of the classroom.
