Women's Studies Students Secure Wonderful Opportunities

Two WSU Women's Studies Graduates Look Forward to Upcoming Positions

As we approach the end of the semester, many graduating students are securing jobs, internships and other exciting positions that will further their professional development. The Women's Studies Program is excited to announce the plans of two of our graduates.

Taylr Ucker, Graduate Assistant for the Master of Humanities Program and Research & Recruitment Assistant for the Women's Studies Program, secured what she calls the "perfect" post-graduation position as a Teen Advocate at the YWCA of Dayton. Taylr has spent her time at Wright State researching women's issues with a focus on education and the utilization of social media. The YWCA of Dayton hosts many programs for teens, including Girls, Inc., and focuses on “Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women.” Taylr’s position at the YWCA, which she begins the Monday following commencement, allows her to combine all of her personal and professional passions by supporting and advocating for local teens.

Ebony Davenport, a Women’s Studies major who also recently finished an internship at the YWCA of Dayton, was selected to participate in the NEW Leadership program this summer. According to their website, NEW Leadership is designed to address the historical and contemporary underrepresentation of women in politics. The program works to educate and empower college women to take on public leadership roles. NEW Leadership educates participants about the political process and awareness of women's historical and contemporary participation in that process. The program was developed in partnership with the NEW Leadership Development Network established by the Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers University. The John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University works with the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies to present the program each summer.

We wish these and all other Women’s Studies and Wright State graduates the best of luck. If you are a current or previous Women’s Studies student at WSU with thrilling professional news, please email Jennifer Money at money.3@wright.edu so we can share!
