Please join the Department of Urban Affairs and Geography in welcoming our newest faculty member, Assistant Professor Daniel Warshawsky, starting Fall 2016!

What should you know about Daniel Warshawsky?

  • Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (2011),  M.S. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison (2006), B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003).
  • In his research, utilizes multiple methods to analyze urban food systems in North America and Africa.  
  • In addition to his current studies on food waste in Johannesburg and Los Angeles, he is writing a book on the globalization of food banking.
  • Developing a local research program in Dayton to investigate the unevenness of food access to examine the range of local food organizations which operate in Dayton and the ways in which people access food in the city.
  • Enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter exploring interesting neighborhoods in the world’s cities, running in parks or trails, and watching good movies.
  • Born and raised in Cincinnati, he is excited to be back in Southwestern Ohio where he has a strong personal connection.

He will teach these 2 courses this fall:

  • GEO 3400 Urban Geography   (M W, 2:30-3:50 pm) 
  • GEO 4860 Geography Methodology/Foundations   (T R, 2:00-3:20 pm)
