2017 Guest Conductor Professor Marcellus Brown
Director of Bands at Boise State University
Conductor of Boise State University Symphonic Winds
The WSU Tri-State Honor Band continues with its annual tradition of featuring a nationally renowned conductor — That tradition lives on with the naming of this year’s WSU/TSHB featured conductor, Professor Marcellus Brown, Director of Bands at Boise State University, and conductor of the highly acclaimed Boise State University Symphonic Winds. Known for his arresting charisma, musical artistry, inspirational leadership, and uncompromising standards, Professor Brown is in constant demand as a popular guest conductor and clinician for university ensembles and honor bands throughout the nation. As a youth, Prof. Brown emerged under the influence of two of the band world’s most legendary all-time figures, William D. Revelli and Harry Begian. At the University of Michigan, under Revelli’s baton, Prof. Brown served as principal solo cornetist of the world-renowned University of Michigan Symphony Band. Later, at the University of Illinois, Prof. Brown would master the craft of wind band leadership, conducting, and rehearsing under Begian’s mentorship. With such a distinguished background, it is no small wonder that Professor Brown has had a profound impact upon legions of young musicians over the course of his career. Without doubt, the students chosen for this year’s TSHB will be similarly impacted and rewarded by Professor Brown’s inspirational leadership!
