Schuster Hall and Other Facility Usage Policies

General Usage

• Schuster Hall will NOT be used for weekly/daily classroom activities or rehearsals.
• When using Schuster Hall, all stands, chairs, and other equipment will be returned to their original location and will not be stored on stage or in the hallways.
• All events – concerts, rehearsals, master classes – will be supervised by a faculty member(s) or graduate teaching assistant.
• Unsupervised students will not be allowed to use the hall without permission by the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.
• All issues with Schuster Hall usage will be reported to the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.
• Anyone found not adhering to the above will lose the privilege to use Schuster Hall.

Opera

The opera will have exclusive usage of Schuster Hall during its production period. Typically, this time period will last from a Saturday through the following Sunday (9 days).

• The opera will not be scheduled during the “busy” times of the semester, which includes the final few weeks of the term.
• The opera will be scheduled during the January calendar meetings.

Large Ensembles

Large ensembles include the following:

Each ensemble will be allowed up to three dress rehearsals (plus the actual performance) for each concert if the hall’s schedule permits.

Dress rehearsals will be two hours in length (including set-up and tear-down time).

Concert dates and dress rehearsals will be scheduled during the January calendar meeting.

Faculty Recitals/Studio Recitals/Smaller Chamber Ensembles

• Each performance will be allowed up to two dress rehearsals (plus the actual performance) for each concert if the hall’s schedule permits.
• Dress rehearsals will be two hours in length (including set-up and tear-down time).
• Dress rehearsals, if possible, will not be scheduled during an 8 p.m. performance time, unless time permits and given permission by the Music Program director.
• Performances will be scheduled during the January calendar meeting.
• Rehearsals will be scheduled starting in September of the calendar year.

Student Recitals

• Each performance will be allowed up to two dress rehearsals (plus the actual performance) for each concert if the hall’s schedule permits.
• Students performing half-recitals should consider combining with another student.
• Dress rehearsals will be two hours in length (including set-up and tear-down time).
• Dress rehearsals, if possible, will not be scheduled during an 8 p.m. performance time, unless time permits and given permission by the Music Program director.
• Performances and rehearsals will be scheduled starting in August for the academic year.

Other Usages

Recordings

The following applies to faculty, student, and ensemble recording sessions.

• All sessions must be supervised by a faculty member present during the process.
• All sessions will be scheduled starting in September of the calendar year.
• Recording sessions, if possible, will not be scheduled during an 8 p.m. performance time, unless time permits and given permission by the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.
• Reasonable limits to the amount of time used for these activities will be imposed by the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.

Artists Series/Guest Artists and Ensembles

• Artists Series performances and hall usage will be scheduled during the January calendar meeting.
• All other guest artist and ensemble performances will be scheduled starting in August of the academic year.
• Schuster Hall usage for these events will be at the discretion of the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.

Non-Music Wright State Groups or Individuals

• Wright State groups or individuals may be allowed to use Schuster Hall and other facilities, but only at the discretion of the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.
• All non-music activities must be considered at a lower priority than music events.
• The School of Fine and Performing Arts chair reserves the right to disallow any groups or events.

Non-Wright State Groups or Individuals

• Non-Wright State University groups, ensembles, or individuals will not be allowed to use Schuster Hall for rehearsals, performances, or events.
• Exception: An event in collaboration with a current Wright State Music Program faculty member and at the discretion of the School of Fine and Performing Arts chair.

Pre-hearings/Juries

• Will be scheduled as needed.
• Juries will be scheduled during the January calendar meetings.
• Pre-hearings will be scheduled starting in September of the calendar year. (The dress rehearsal policy listed under Student Recitals applies).

Teaching Lessons in the CAC for Pay

• It is illegal by state law to teach lessons for profit in a public facility unless you go through the Wright State system.
