St. Martin's Lantern Walk

On November 8, 2015, in honor of St. Martin, a protector of children and patron of the poor, the Dayton German Club, Liederkranz-Turner, hosted a fun-filled afternoon and
evening celebrating a century-old German tradition. Children and their families built their own lanterns at the Liederkranz-Turner Clubhouse and after a wonderful meal they paraded with Dr. Sturdevant from Wright State University and Louise Gaertner of Liederkranz-Turner behind St. Martin and his horse through St. Anne's Hill in Dayton. The WSU German club was also invited to this event.

Stopping at several beautiful homes, they sang German traditional lantern songs in German. After returning to the Liederkranz-Turner club, the carolers enjoyed petting the St.Martin's horse, drinking hot cocoa, and sitting around a bonfire.
