Modern Languages Celebrates Donors and Scholarship Recipients

On November 10, 2013 the College of Liberal Arts hosted its annual donor recognition ceremony at the Benjamin and Marian Schuster center in downtown Dayton. More than 260 people joined together to recognize and honor important donors to the college and many talented student scholarships recipients. The David and Suzanne Garrison Scholarships for Modern Languages were awarded to Nathan Cardenas, Colleen Demboski and Samantha Stewart. The Marcia G. Muller Study Abroad Scholarship was awarded to Nathan Cardenas.

Dr. David Garrison, Professor Emeritus of Spanish, retired in 2009 after teaching Spanish and Portuguese for thirty years and chairing the Department of Modern Languages from 1999-2007.  His wife, Suzanne, is a law lecturer in Wright State’s Raj Soin College of Business.  Marcia Muller was Wright State’s Vice President of Advancement and President of the Wright State Foundation from 1999-2009.  The Marcia G. Muller Study Abroad Scholarship was established to honor her leadership at Wright State and support students in the College of Liberal Arts with their study abroad expenses.

Colleen Demboski graduated in spring 2013 with undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Middle Childhood Education.  She is currently working on her Master’s of Education at Wright State and serves on the Dean Student Advisory Council for the College of Education and Human Services. Post graduate plans will include the Spanish-speaking population. Her ideal job would be working with English Language Learners within a dual-language program, promoting bilingualism among all of her students.
