The 2015 Piediscalzi Lecture will be held at Wright State University on April 16, 2015. The lecture, entitled “There and Back Again: The Story World of Greek Myth,” will be delivered by Dr. Sarah Iles Johnston, Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor of Religion and Professor of Classics, The Ohio State University. Professor Johnston will discuss how ancient myths collectively build a 'story-world' much like those we see today in television shows, movies and fiction. To do this, she uses a theory pioneered by J. R.R. Tolkien, as well as the work of recent media scholars. Professor Johnston is an expert on ancient Greek religion and myth who is now completing a book on ancient Greek myths and what made them so narratively appealing.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Thursday, April 16th, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, in 163 A-B Student Union.
The event is sponsored by the Departments of Religion, Philosophy, and Classics. For more information, please contact the department at 937-775-2274 or religion@wright.edu.
