Joseph Mason, Ph.D., named History Department Outstanding Alumnus

Joseph Mason, Ph.D., the historian of the Air Force Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, received his M.A. in history from Wright State University in 1998, while serving as an aerospace engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He received his Ph.D. in history from Iowa University in 2004.  As an Air Force historian, he has worked at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, and later at headquarters, U.S. Central Command. During this time, Dr. Mason deployed to the Persian Gulf region to document coalition air force operations in Afghanistan and wrote a history of U.S.-Pakistan security cooperation after 9/11. His history of the Air Education and Training Command’s response to Hurricane Katrina won an Air Force award for best historical publication in 2006.  The Department of History is pleased to recognize him as the Outstanding Alumnus for 2013.
