Topics vary, focusing on one or more themes such as rights, democracy, liberalism, pluralism, secularism, tolerance, torture, terrorism, or totalitarianism. Readings from thinkers such as Hannah Arendt, Herbert Marcuse, Jürgen Habermas, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, John Rawls, Richard Rorty, G. A.
